Wandering Walls on the Cover of Korea’s “Taiwan” Architecture Issue
The July–August 2026 Korean edition of Taiwan invites its readers to experience Taiwan through the lens of architecture.
With Taiwanese Architecture as its Cover Story, the issue explores architectural works across the island, looking at the relationships between architecture, cities, nature and travel.
Wandering Walls is not only featured in the architecture issue; its signature curving concrete walls also appear on the cover.
When Architecture Becomes the Destination
This time, Wandering Walls is not introduced simply as a place to stay in Kenting.
Within an issue dedicated to architecture in Taiwan, the story approaches Wandering Walls through its relationship with the natural environment—its curving concrete walls, shifting light and shadow, framed openings, movement through space, and the changing views revealed from different perspectives.
Architecture is more than a container for accommodation.
As guests move through the building, walls, light, sky and the distant landscape continually shift. Staying here becomes a way of experiencing the relationship between architecture and its surroundings.
Three Walls, Reframing the Relationship Between People and Landscape
Wandering Walls sits beside an acacia woodland on Taiwan’s Hengchun Peninsula.
Three free-flowing curved concrete walls create a building with no single fixed way of seeing it. As guests move through the spaces, the walls alternately conceal and reveal, redirecting the gaze toward the sky, the grassland and the distant sea.
The powerful winds of the Hengchun Peninsula, its sunlight, sky and surrounding landscape are not simply a backdrop to the architecture. They are part of the experience of Wandering Walls itself.
Arrive at a different hour, encounter the light from another direction, or visit in another season or weather, and the same architecture reveals a different expression.
Seven Years Later, From the Hengchun Peninsula to the Cover Abroad
Since opening in 2019, Wandering Walls has spent seven years on this hillside, exposed to monsoon winds, intense sun, rainy seasons and salt carried from the sea.
For us, Wandering Walls was never intended to be simply a place to spend the night.
We have always believed that a place to stay can itself become a reason to travel.
Some come for the sea. Some come for the sunshine of Kenting. And some are willing to make the journey simply to experience a work of architecture.
Seven years later, Wandering Walls is once again being introduced to readers in another country, in another language.
This time, Korea’s Taiwan has chosen the architecture of Wandering Walls for its cover, opening a journey that begins with architecture and offers another way of seeing Taiwan.
Some journeys begin with a city.
Some begin with a landscape.
And sometimes, the destination itself is a work of architecture.
