Recommended by Locals · Hengchun Cuisine – Höo Triptown Taiwanese Cuisine Salon
Whenever guests ask us for "local food" recommendations, or when travelers are looking for a delicious and photogenic place to dine, "Höo Triptown" always makes it onto our shortlist. Unlike traditional street food or seafood stir-fry spots, this place offers refined Taiwanese cuisine full of creativity and "wok hei" (breath of the wok). The interesting name "Höo Triptown" comes from the phonetic sound of the Taiwanese phrase "hó-tshuì-táu," which means not being a picky eater and finding everything delicious!
Not only is this a restaurant we recommend to our guests, but it is also the private choice of our butlers who live in Hengchun long-term when they want a good meal or a get-together with friends. Here, the concepts of traditional Taiwanese banquet cuisine and a bistro are perfectly combined, featuring a stylish environment and an excellent standard of flavor.
Location
Höo Triptown is located in an alley near the outer ring road (Henggong Road) of Hengchun Township. It's about a 15 to 20-minute drive from The Wandering Walls, and about 20 minutes from Kenting Main Street. It offers a quiet retreat amidst the bustling area.
Parking & Environment
Those driving can look for white-line parking spaces in the nearby alleys or surrounding areas. As soon as you arrive at the entrance, you'll be drawn in by the tropical plants full of southern island vibes and the striking tiger mural. The interior features a Taiwanese retro-romantic and artistic "Instagrammable" style. On the first floor, a massive, eye-catching painting of a tiger surfing perfectly captures the passionate atmosphere of Hengchun and Kenting. The second floor offers large round tables suitable for group dining. Although the overall space isn't huge, every corner is thoughtfully decorated, making it perfect for taking photos.
Dining Tips
Business is extremely good! It is highly recommended to make a reservation by phone or online in advance for weekends and holidays to avoid disappointment or a long wait (you might even need to book half a month in advance for popular consecutive holidays). A 10% service charge applies for dining in, and there is a minimum charge of NT$350 per person. They offer a rich variety of dishes, and if you have a larger group, the restaurant thoughtfully provides set menus for four or eight people, making ordering much easier.
The Wandering Walls' Private Recommendations
The dishes here combine traditional banquet cuisine with innovative techniques. Here are a few must-order "soul food" dishes:
-
Drunken Dongpo Pork: A signature dish ordered by almost every table! The braised, dark-gold and glossy Dongpo pork emits a charming, subtle Shaoxing wine aroma. The ratio of fat to lean meat is perfect, melting in your mouth without being greasy. The sauce is savory with a touch of sweetness, rich in layers without being overly salty—an absolute "rice killer."
-
Sichuan Mouthwatering Chicken: For those who love bold, spicy, and numbing flavors, do not miss this. Tender, chilled chicken is drizzled with a special sauce that is sour, spicy, numbing, and fragrant all at once. It's incredibly appetizing and an excellent cold appetizer.
-
Waterfall Golden Sand Tofu: Soft and bouncy tofu is lightly fried on the outside and then completely coated with a rich, savory salted egg yolk sauce. It's incredibly fragrant, goes perfectly with rice, and although it looks simple, it has the magic to make you take bite after bite.
-
Peach Shrimp Balls (or Pineapple Shrimp Balls): A reinterpretation of the classic pineapple shrimp balls. They use generous, shelled, and deveined "whole jumbo shrimp," deep-fried to a golden crisp on the outside while remaining tender and plump inside. Paired with a special fruity mayonnaise, the sweetness is just right, making it a hit with both adults and children.
-
Peeled Chili Chicken and Clam Soup: An incredibly fresh and sweet soup! Simmered with peeled chili peppers and chicken, it tastes mildly spicy with a sweet aftertaste. Enhanced by the freshness of clams and the aroma of mushrooms, and featuring springy chicken meat, it’s the most perfect and comforting finale to a hearty meal.
Höo Triptown Dining Experience
Höo Triptown is a restaurant that shatters the traditional impression of Taiwanese cuisine, making "Taiwanese flavors" trendy and fun. Its dishes are exquisite and pair wonderfully with rice. Not only are they visually artistic, but they also capture the authentic soul of banquet cuisine on your palate. For foreign travelers wanting to taste local and creative Taiwanese cuisine, or for anyone looking for an atmospheric bistro to relax, eat, and enjoy specialty cocktails, this is a highly recommended choice by The Wandering Walls.
